Negotiating a Brief

It is important to discuss the brief with your client prior to production as it will help you understand the brief in more detail. The client usually tells you what their vision is of the project and you will then understand their vision, the whole project fully and see how important it is to the client and what they like or dislike within it. You get a chance to ask all the questions you need to know, that are not written on the brief from the client to guide you through the project.

An advantage of employing with a brief could be that there is a way for the production team to put their own creative ideas to the project. This could be useful to the production team as they could show people what they can do. This could lead to them getting work after this project that could be more creative.

A disadvantage could be that the company making the production could be too creative and produce a product that the company issuing the brief disagree with as it may be too creative. Companies need products to look professional, if they allow discretion with a brief, then it could lose its professionalism and in conclusion the company could lose business.

Within the brief there are potential legal/ethical/regulatory issues. For the legal issues we will have to beware to not to use any copy-right material to make sure we won’t have any legal problems. Within the production we will end to ensure we use a variety of people with different ethnicities and ages, who are of different religions. Following all these things will help ensure our production is legally and ethically correct.

We may have to consider some amendments to the brief like the budget; we will have to adjust the production around a bit to fit with the budget. We may have to change the software we use or the camera equipment we rent out. We will also have to think about the conditions we are going to be working in, for example for the video if we need to film outside we will need to look at the weather conditions to know what we need to do, and if it is raining, we will need to make sure the shooting equipment doesn’t get ruined, or change what we are shooting for that day.
